Gabby Petito's story is what brought me back to social media which I've subsequently become entrenched in. I've followed a number of missing persons cases since then but none has effected me like Gabby until Kiely Rodni. I have to ask myself if it's the mystery? The tragedy? The seeming ineptness of law enforcement? Shady behavior by those close to the victim? All of the above?
This morning I received a notification that someone I follow on Twitter for their dedication to missing persons cases has deactivated their account due to shade being thrown at them. Looking deeper I discovered that the group Adventures With Purpose (AWP) is being badmouthed al,though without them Kiely might still be sitting at the bottom of the reservoir she was found in (since local law enforcement was confident they'd thoroughly searched it).
I'm very cognizant of the fact that many You Tubers are invested in this case and not all are above board. I followed a channel during Gabby's case that I thought truly cared and discovered later that they are grifters of the highest order. And since they rarely cover missing persons cases, I probably should've realized sooner. I now cringe every time their name is brought up. However, I don't sweep others with the same brush. Checking the history of the channel, what types of stories they cover and in what manner they cover it speaks volumes. But, back to the story at hand.
What is it about Kiely's case that is so fascinating? Well, first there is the fact that a giant party is held each year for the local high school's graduating class with absolutely no oversight by local officials. Or so it seems, anyway. YT creator Duty Ron, a retired NYPD police detective, pointed out that something like this should've been allotted coverage by law enforcement to ensure safety. It seems that everybody just turned a blind eye so it was inevitable that tragedy would eventually ensue (my thoughts, not his).
As a mother with a child in his early 20's both of these situations sadden and horrify me. I don't understand Kiely's mom's beef with AWP (much like I didn't understand the Brian Laudrie parents' behavior when their future daughter-in-law, Gabby Petito, went missing). Putting your own ego above the welfare of children baffles me. Brian might still be alive had his parents broken their silence. Incarcerated but alive. Kiely's mother has shot the bearer of bad news regarding AWP. I'm sorry she got said news via social media but she chose not to be informed of their findings.
I know I'll probably catch flack for lumping these folks in together but I have questions. Ones that will probably never be answered. I cannot imagine the pain all of these parents are enduring but keeping quiet/preaching silence is not the way. Future heart wrenching tragedies cannot be prevented if lessons are lost. YT creator 10 to Life had a warning slapped on her video regarding the lacing of street drugs with deadly Fentanyl causing an increasing number of accidental over doses. Is this what happened to Kiely? It's an incredibly valid question considering the circumstances of her death.
I'm so very tired of people being trolled for asking questions. It gives Catholic school kid vibes, freedom of speech repression. Give me the information without a prefix of mis or dis. Information just is. As a child my son divided things as information and informational information. Yes, he was precocious, lol. However, he had a point - some information is more important to some than others. As humans, we're able and allowed to make that distinction, for the most part.
