Before I begin, let me preface this by saying that I haven't watched any documentaries or listened to any podcasts before this trial began. My knowledge comes mostly from Emily D. Baker's coverage. And the questions that began to formulate are still unanswered.
- Why didn't Alex drive down to the kennels to let Maggie know he was leaving? Especially when it was a fairly standard practice to drive by that area when it's known that someone was out there?
- Why wasn't he concerned that the killer(s) might still be around? I know he went back up to the house during the 911 call to grab a gun but that all seemed very haphazard, IMO. Local LEO's didn't seem that concerned either. Maybe it's 'cuz Alex was still standing when they arrived? Perhaps.
- He never said anything like, "how could someone do this?" I think I'd be asking that over and over. I'd also probably be hysterical and need tranquilizers, too. Or maybe shocked into blank stared silence. Yes, I know people process trauma in all sorts of ways but my original question stands.
- No "if onlys." Nothing about maybe if he'd driven by the kennels he could've stopped this from happening. Or if only he'd stayed.
- Why no blood if he touched the bodies as much as he said he did? He's a very tall man, he'd have to have kneeled, too. So blood on hands, knees, probably footwear but NADA. However, at least Paul was clearly dead so if he didn't check him, that's understandable. But Paul's phone was placed on his backside so... I might also lie and say I checked them when the 911 operator asked just to get past that 'cuz I watch true crime and know they'll try to guide me through CPR. I think I'd still try to comfort my loved ones in some way, though, so I'd still be covered in blood.
- Why call Paul's friend(s)? Especially if they were like sons to you? It's just cruel to have them come and witness their friend's body in the state that it was. I also find the sheer number of people that showed up to the crime scene quite odd, whether Alex called them or not. And the property had two entrances, why did they all flock to the one with the lights? Park at the other one to stay out of the way of law enforcement, ffs. Use your damn legs and walk down. Not a lick of commen sense amongst the lot of them.
- Why did Alex try to amend Blanca's & Miss Shelly's memories of that day/night? I also found it very telling that he completely dismissed them during testimony. Sorry, dude, but I find them far more compelling than I do you.
- Why lie about being at the kennels that night? The man made a point of telling multiple people that was nowhere near the kennels.
I realize that I've gone off on some tangents here but the more questions I find the more infuriated I get. Everybody was afraid that there was some vendetta against the Murdaughs going on but they all just ran to Moselle in the middle of the night to stand around outside for hours? I guess once local LEOs arrived it was safe enough, who would start taking potshots then? However, the majority of this crowd were lawyers. Did nobody think that they might just be contaminating the crime scene? heavy sigh
On the stand yesterday (2/23/2023) Alex said he was "scared" of SLED. I find that completely unbelievable. SLED tiptoed around this man so much that they completely botched this investigation. It's far more likely that SLED was scared of HIM. However, I'd like to believe that if it was some hater regarding the "boat case," even SLED could've tracked them down. Did Alex keep throwing that out there because it was the only reason he could think of or was it a handy excuse? Unfortunately, we may never know.
As it stands now, I don't think the state has enough to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Alex brutually shot and killed Maggie & Paul Murdaugh. However, his shifty behavior leads me to believe that he at least knows something. As he said, he "got out" of there (the kennel area) right after getting the bird out of poor Bubba the retriever's mouth. Which was mere moments before the fatal shootings. It's just all so suss to me.
